Our History

The journey on this mission of empowering women by making them financially independent and capable of availing employable opportunities began when Mrs. Raj Duggal, founder of The Raj Duggal Education Society (RDES) felt in 1985 that the young girls of Faridabad had grim future in terms of self-reliance and financial independence. In the absence of ample opportunities for further education in this sleepy little town, these girls had little to do except get well-versed with household affairs and settle after marriage.Mrs.Duggal realised that providing for the economic independence of these girls was her calling in life and so she conducted an intensive survey in India as well as in America. She visited American community colleges as they were contributing towards the economic growth of their nation – the highest number of students at these colleges,in USA being women.

After an extensive research, she planned to start multi-disciplinary courses for Indian women. She wanted to establish a Community College with a vision to provide ‘an innovative educational alternative rooted in the community providing skill based, livelihood enhancing education and eligibility for employment’ to the women. It envisaged imparting ‘appropriate skill development leading to gainful employment in collaboration with the local industries, schools and the community.’ Mr. S. N. Duggal(her husband and CMD of RDES) helped her in her mission by bringing knowledge and expertise from America over a span of seven years and they established the SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women in 1992. The society is registered with the Registrar of Companies, Haryana vide No. 03 and 2652. The, then, Deputy Commissioner Faridabad, kindly issued a Certificate of Genuineness for RDES vide letter no. 2130/MB-3 dated 1902-97.

However, since the concept of Community College was not popular in India at that time, RDES decided to call it SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women with the blessings of Mrs.SavitriDuggal, mother-in-law of Mrs. Raj Duggal. The Polytechnic was liberal for entry and exit and emphasised on providing opportunities to women to understand their natures and natural instincts and choose courses to enhance their employability accordingly.

It has been our constant endeavour to get the courses we offer be approved and certified for their validity at national level for job openings, by any competent agency, university of repute, or state / national government. We feel proud of the fact that our persistent efforts and perseverance has provided value and credibility to our certificates and diplomas and left us wiser after every experience.

Our Knowledge Partner

SAVITRItook the initiative to be the first institution in Haryana to apply for No-Objection Certificate (NOC) in 1996 for recognition of Nursery Teacher Training (2 year professional diploma) from NCTE established by Govt. of India in 1995. Basedon a series of inspections by the concerned officials from Regional Director, NCTE Jaipur,NCTE approved our training plans, systems, facilities, and teaching methodology.SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women, established in 1992 was recognised to run training programme for women and even seats were allotted vide NCTE order Regional Director-1/97/288, dated 24/05/1997.

To our utter dismay NCTE Regional Director imposed a condition that the State of Haryanawill form an independent examining body for Programme Ending Examination after two years. But the Govt. of Haryana recommended to NCTE to allow SAVITRI Polytechnic for Women to conduct Course Ending Examination at institutional level vide State Govt. No. 17/4.96-Diet (2), dated 21/05/2001.

The NCTE has, however, been inflexible and this caseis still pending between the Government of Haryana (Education Department) and NCTE ever since and we are still waiting for necessary permission to admit students.

We are, since 1997,in activecorrespondence with both the Govt. of Haryana and NCTE regarding the matter. Assuming from the NCTE letter,Tr.13 dn/3413-14 dt. 20.8.2006, that since our appeal has not been rejected, our files will definitely see the light of the day in near future,we intend to continue our endeavour to keep up the association.

However, we follow the NCTE / SCERT Delhi syllabus for Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) formerly known as NTT by NCTE in order to provide authentic, structured and recognised curriculum to our trainees so as to keep up the credibility of our courses and enhance job possibilities for our trainees.

We associated with PTU in October 2001 vide letter dated October 2001 when we were recognised as a Learning Centre for PTU and in March 2002, we were granted the permission to conduct Teacher Training Programme (B.Ed.).

86 students were granted admission, and we set up necessary infrastructure and appointed expert faculty when with a change in the university administrative setup we were shocked to see public notice in the press that the university had withdrawn the programme. We had to refund fees to the students who joined us at PTU Learning Centre to keep up our status in the community we serve. Since, we were persistent and have always endeavoured for the general good of the students, we kept on working and waited for something good to happen.

SWe were pleased to reunite with PTU later and as we have always been keen to continue working with the University, we again paid the necessary sum to revive our ties. We are happy to announce that two of our students – Kusum Lata (MSc FT) and Pawas Goyal (BSc FT) topped the charts in the University with second and first positions respectively.
